People around the world witnessed how the major oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico ruined almost the entire coast. Now that it is nearing its end though, the focus now shifted to the health effects it can have and how long they will last.
Various health experts and researchers around the world already released comprehensive information regarding the possible health effect of the oil spill.
The Journal of the American Medical Association recently published an article that compared this oil spill to spills that happened in the past to look at types of health effects. The journal said that direct exposure to this oil spill might lead to serious health problems especially to those people who are around it and have to live through it. Residents living near the Gulf could fall ill and show symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, and chest pain, as well as respiratory diseases if they got exposed to the various chemicals that were released from the oil.
The article was a collaborative effort and released by Gina Solomon and Sarah Janssen from the University of California – San Francisco as well as the Natural Resources Defense Council.
